Watertown Redevelopment Authority’s Housing Rehab Grant Program Supports Home Revitalization

Watertown, WI, January 17, 2025 – The Watertown Redevelopment Authority (RDA) is proud to share the continued success of its Housing Rehab Grant Program, designed to help homeowners make critical improvements to their properties while enhancing the overall appearance and value of Watertown’s neighborhoods. Since its launch, the program has supported numerous homeowners in addressing deferred maintenance, improving energy efficiency, and maintain and improve exterior appearances.

The Housing Rehab Grant Program provides financial assistance to eligible residents to complete a variety of projects, including roof repairs, window replacements, siding updates, and accessibility improvements. In doing so, the program not only improves individual

properties but also strengthens the community by encouraging reinvestment in Watertown’s housing stock.

“Programs like this are essential to building a stronger, more vibrant Watertown,” said RDA Executive Director Mason Becker. “By partnering with homeowners, we’re helping to ensure that our neighborhoods remain great places to live and grow. These grants are more than just financial assistance—they’re an investment in the future of our community.”

To date, the program has helped pay for five completed projects, with several more at various stages of progress. Some examples:

  • A home on Baxter Street was able to replace failing windows and a dilapidated porch structure.

  • A homeowner of a two-story home on N Second Street was able to pressure wash and repaint the exterior of their home, as well as replace the gutters.

  • A property owner near E Main Street was able to rehab their deteriorating chimney and replace part of their ventilation system.

“These are the kinds of transformations that truly make a difference,” added Becker. “The pride and renewed sense of ownership we see in residents after their projects are completed are a testament to the power of this program. Most of these projects have been located in older portions of the City, and it’s great to participate in the preservation of homes in this critical part of Watertown.”

Funding for the Housing Rehab Grant Program is made possible through one-time ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) grant dollars that were allocated by the City for the purpose of preserving existing housing stock, demonstrating the community’s commitment to housing and neighborhood revitalization.

Homeowners interested in applying for a grant can visit the RDA’s website or contact the RDA directly for more information. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and funding is available until exhausted. Applications are reviewed in conjunction with Thrive Economic Development, and projects sometimes qualify for other assistance programs available through Thrive and their partners.

The RDA remains dedicated to improving quality of life for Watertown residents and businesses through the Housing Rehab Grant Program, the Revolving Loan Fund, the Beltz Foundation Grant Program, and other efforts.
